Twice Exceptional (2e) children are unique little people that come to school with incredible strengths to offer. Unfortunately, for many of these children, they go unnoticed in the classroom looking like average learners or children with behavioural problems. In many situations, these children end up on behavioural plans, with remediation strategies. This eventuates in disengagement from their learning, frustration from the parents and a child that isn’t having their gifted needs catered to.

Melissa Morrison has recently had two of her own children diagnosed with ADHD and Autism and she would like to walk parents and teachers through this diagnosis process. She will also explore the perspectives of parents who have navigated this process and the frustration and concerns that have gone unnoticed throughout the IEP process. In this presentation, she will share a toolbox of strategies that she has used to help 2e children in the classroom that not only cater to their weaknesses but take into account their innate desire to learn.  This professional learning event will be designed to provide strategies to help parents and teachers navigate the consultation process so that all people involved in the child's education feel like their concerns and needs are being met.

This event will be hosted at Bateman Primary School in the Library.
